NESSMAN, Edward J. Jr.
Age 85, of Arnot Road, Wellsboro, PA, died March 24, 2009 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late A. Marie Aungst Nessman. Ed was born June 8, 1923 in Newark, New Jersey, the son of the late Edward J. and Catherine Wallace Nessman, Sr. He was a union carpenter and cabinet maker in New Jersey. Ed was a member of the Wellsboro United Methodist Church, very active as poppy chairman for the VFW, historian for the American Legion, and was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society. He loved fishing, boating, music, carpentry and especially gardening. He was an avid birdwatcher, enjoyed animals, but most of all spending time with family. Ed was a Navy veteran serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Surviving are sons, Edward (Cara) Nessman, III, Scranton, PA, and Jeff (Linda) Dow, MacClenny, Florida; daughters, Vicki Dow, Wellsboro, PA, Nancy Torres, Manchester, NJ, and Maureen (Chris) Hughes, Wellsboro, PA; nine grandchildren, Vivian, James, Ashley, Jason, Dorothy, Amanda, Ryan, Eric and Joseph; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jakob, Ashlyn and Sydney; sister, Eleanor DeLear, Point Pleasant, NJ. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy, in 1962, his second wife of over forty years, Marie, in 2004, and a sister, Joan Purcaro. Friends and family are invited to Ed's Life Celebration on Monday, March 30, 2009 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, a "Life Celebration Home", 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA. A Military Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Funeral Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Marian Hartman officiating. Burial in Welsh Settlement Cemetery.
