Edgar L. Lawton (1925 - 2012)
Edgar L. Lawton, age 86, of
Mansfield,
PA, died on Thursday, August 16, 2012, in The Green Home,
Wellsboro,
PA. Born on October 1, 1925 in Stony Fork,
PA, he was the son of Frank and Bernice (Lloyd)
Lawton. Edgar was married to Linda (Clark)
Lawton. Edgar earned a
B.S. degree in Mathematics in 1948 from Mansfield State College, a M.S. in
Education degree from
Bucknell
University in 1954, and had 60 SH in education and
psychology from
Pennsylvania
State
University.
He eagerly entered the education field where he served in numerous capacities
including: secondary math and science teacher, elementary school teacher in all
subjects fourth thru sixth grades, and College Laboratory School, all subjects
in fifth grade; faculty member at California State Teachers College, part-time
instructor at Corning Community College, Director of Elementary Education in
Lititz, PA, Assistant County Superintendent in Lancaster County; Assistant
Executive Director in Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit; Executive Director
of Clarion Area Intermediate Unit 6. He was a member of the Mansfield Borough
Council, Mansfield Chamber of Commerce, Local and Regional Economic Development
Councils, Route 15 Coalition, Lions Club, American Legion, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, United Methodist Church, PA Assoc. for Supervision and
Curriculum Development, 1976-1977, Chairman Clarion University Council of
Trustees 1988-1991, President of PA Assoc. of Councils of Trustees, 1986-1988,
President of Welcome Center Committee. He received distinguished Service Awards
from Pennsylvania School Boards Assoc. and PA Assoc. of Councils of Trustees.
Edgar served his country for five years in the US
Navy aboard the USS Missouri during World
War II and Korean
War. In addition to his wife, Linda, Edgar is survived by a niece, Bernice
Superko of Naples, FL, grand nephew, Martin Bartlett of Virginia Beach, VA; a
grand niece, Marcia Bartlett of Mansfield, PA; great nephew, Zachary Bartlett
of Biloxi, MS; great nieces, MegAnn Bartlett of Naples, FL and Rebecca Bartlett
of Virginia Beach, VA. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday,
August 21, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. to Noon at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and
Crematory, Inc.,

Mansfield,
PA. A Memorial Service will be held
immediately following calling hours at Noon at the funeral chapel with Rev. Joy
Hulslander and Rev. Dr. Jonathan West officiating. Burial will be in
West
