Frank Yungwirth Obituary

Frank E. Yungwirth, 79, of Covington, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024, at UPMC Williamsport.  He was born October 4, 1945, in Blossburg, to Matthew and Catherine (Kroll) Yungwirth.  He graduated from high school, and joined the Army where he flew helicopters in Viet Nam and was decorated for his service.  He earned an officer’s commission and  reached the rank of captain.  After leaving the military Frank worked at Maple Hill Tree Farm on his old homestead while he attended Mansfield University and earned his bachelor’s degree.  He then taught history and government at Wellsboro High School.  After retirement Frank served Covington Township as a Township Supervisor.  He attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and was deeply involved in veterans’ organizations VFW, DAV, and the American Legion, serving as commander and participating in veterans’ events.

Frank is survived by his wife:  Susan Yungwirth of Covington; three sons:  Matthew G. Yungwirth (Sheila) of Mansfield, Vincent J. Yungwirth (Andrea) of Hutto, TX, and Jachob Eugene Yungwirth (Kelsey) of Hanover, IN; two step-daughters:  Melissa Avery (Bill) of Gordon, PA, and Renee Borque (Charlie) of NH; nine grandchildren:  Tennielle Garramone (Nicholas), Leevi Yungwirth, Haley Yungwirth, Matthew J. Yungwirth, Naethin Clark (Amber), Emmaleigh Avery, Quinntin Avery, Helena Bourque and Harrison Bourque; five great-grandchildren:  Olivia, Karmela, and Joseph Garramone, Jolene and Athena Yungwirth; two sisters:  Rose M. Newman (Jack) of Sonora, CA, and Kathleen Y Walters (Darel) of Longs, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers:  Matthew and Robert Yungwirth.

Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Frank’s life from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Friday November 15, 2024 at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA and his funeral Mass 10am Saturday November 16, 2024, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 38 Central Avenue Wellsboro, PA.  Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.  Donations may be made in his name to the VFW Psot 4907 Scholarship Fund.  To share a memory or condolence with his family visit www.tusseymosher.com.
